In São Carlos, Brazil, Lilica carried food home each evening for the animals who shared her scrapyard home: another dog, a cat, chickens and a mule.

Teacher Lúcia Helena de Souza fed her and tied up the food bag. Neile Vânia Antônio, who had taken Lilica in after she was abandoned, opened it for the others. Care passed from one life to another.

For me, these are friends who think, share and care.

Some will call it instinct. I say: may we all have an instinct like hers, and a soul like hers.
